From our first inquiry call, I knew Jenny and David were a unique couple to work with. Jenny, a social media manager of a well-known dog food company, and David, an exquisite graphic designer, are the type of people who take the road less traveled. Particularly, the one involving animal noses. Let’s hear about this unconventional wedding tradition!

Animal noses? What?

It went a little bit like this…

“So tell me guys, do you have any unique traditions/aspects you’d like to incorporate into the wedding?” They shared with me the trending donut dessert idea and David’s father officiating the wedding, but what stopped me in my tracks was Jenny exclaiming, “PIG NOSES!”

“Come again?” My puzzled self said while David took a big grinning swig of his IPA.

Tell me about the beginnings of the unconventional wedding tradition!

Jenny shared that she has no idea how this started in the family, but at every wedding, someone secretly breaks out animal noses for the guests to wear. I was trying to conceptualize this while piecing together how it came into existence; once a funny prank, now a tradition everyone looks forward to? She further explained that once animal noses are donned, the song “We Are Family” queues up.

You know, I’ve seen a lot of family traditions as a wedding planner, but this is definitely a first! I loved that this is being carried down and can only hope to see their future kiddos breaking out the masks at their one-day nuptials.

Pigletting and horsin’ around aside, their creative spirits are also shown through in their wedding day stationery that David designed. I love that he took it on as something very personal and representative of their wedding day. If you look closely, you’ll notice the reception seating chart mimics the shape of the arching windows of the venue, the historic One Eleven East established in 1893.

As a wedding planner and married gal, all I can say is this: emulate what these two did. Bring your out-of-the-ordinary ideas to your wedding day and make it 100% uniquely you. Because when it comes down to it, you’ll be the one looking back on photos on your 50th anniversary and beaming because the day was unashamedly representative of you. Let the untraditional wedding traditions ring!
