Here’s what I love about Texas – not everywhere looks and feels like Texas. Haha! In Austin, we locals are lucky enough to share the hill country wedding scene as part of our stomping grounds. Today, I want to share the story of my nature-loving, rock-climbing couple, Jenna and James, who chose to get married at Pecan Springs Ranch to celebrate under the oaks of the Texas hill country.

So, how did they meet?

Jenna and James met at a rock climbing gym. Let’s just say, when they first started tying figure 8 follow-through knots (a belay loop) together, they had a bigger knot to tie in the future. *Wink*

What was their wedding inspiration?

The couple wanted an airy, springtime romance. What caught their eye about Pecan Springs Ranch was the ample outdoor space it provided nestled amongst towering live oak trees. A big perk about getting married in mid-April in Austin is all is green again and the open fields boast flowers. Of course, to complement this, Jenna and James’ colored palette included greens, blushes, and oranges.

Additionally, I loved that their centerpieces included wood slabs.

This was a simple, impactful way of bringing the oak trees into the reception space. Even the naked frosted cake gave a sense of the woods.

Did they have any unique moments at Pecan Springs Ranch?

One of the couple’s most meaningful moments from the wedding day was the hand-tying ceremony.

“My partner and I met at a climbing gym and are giant dorks. It felt appropriate and symbolic to have a rope bind our hands in the wedding.”

Love this, Jenna. Hahaha!

In addition to this, one of her favorite moments was seeing James turn around to see her in her dress for the very first time. (I’m not crying, you’re crying!)

Let’s not forget the Pecan Springs Ranch guests of honor…

Is it really a hill country wedding without the beers burros?? Many of Jenna and James’ wedding guests reside outside of Texas, so adding a bit of this country flair was a total hit. On top of that, they had some Shiner Bocks short ribs TO. DIE. FOR. What more could you ask for of a Texas wedding?

Bride, groom, field.

I spent almost 18 months of wedding planning with J & J…

And can say I had so much fun getting to know them and helping bring their charming day to life. Honestly, they kept the dance floor so packed that it blew me away – it was an absolute blast!

Here’s what they had to say about our time together:

“We hired Sydney as our wedding planner after a phone interview. Although our wedding was more than a year away at the time, Sydney took great care with gathering all relevant information from us and made sure to keep us, our budget, and our wants in focus through the entire planning process. She was extremely organized, easy to work with and get ahold of, quickly replied to emails and questions, and made herself available for regular phone calls and in person meetings when possible.

She was clear to communicate costs, took initiative with contacting vendors, and helped sort out the entire process for us! Fast forward to the wedding day, and wow! What a wonderful time we had, and Sydney and her team was there to make sure everything was running smoothly, and handle any last minute issues. We received so many compliments from our family and guests about how perfect the wedding and reception was, and while we had the ultimate call on the choices, it was Sydney and her team that really pulled it off! We could not be happier with the experience we had and would be proud to recommend her to anyone planning a wedding! Truly we cannot say enough, probably some of the best money we’ve ever spent!”

I have the best couples, ever.

Cheers to many years, J + J!
